Elder DallinEvans has been transfered!

On January 9, 2012 Elder Evans was transfered from the lovely costal city of Puerto Madryn to the big inland city of Neuquen.  He is going to be opening an area with a new companion, Elder Hernandez.  I'm not sure about him, because he always is so positive, but I'm nervous.  He traveled all through the night by bus to get to Neuquen.  Here are some pictures that I found on line of Neuquen, just to give an idea of where he is.  Hopefully we'll get some from him.

I'm pretty sure that, this is the Rio Negro that runs right through Neuquen.

A map of Neuquen, he is in an area of the city called La Confluencia

SAYING ADIOS AGAIN TO ALLISON January 6, 2012

Grandpa Hiatt, Rebecca, and Grandma Hiatt.  I entitled this blog saying adios to Allison, because that is what took us to Mesa, but they're are some special things that happened before we dropped her off that I want to share.

I sat on this side of Grandpa, because when I was sitting on the other side of him he couldn't hear me, so finally he said, "if you want me to hear what you're saying, you're gonna have talk into the ear that's not deaf."  I love my grandpa so much.  Even though I wasn't sure if he knew exactly who I was the whole time, he was so happy that I was there.  He always has had, and still has an amazing amount of love to give.  Grandma at one point pulled up her pant leg to show us her knee surgery scar and grandpa without even thinking whistled.  Grandma laughed, it was fun to see.

I had grandma and grandpa sign their life history book that my mom wrote.  Well it belongs to me, but I wanted to have their signature in it, along with mom's.  Grandma was telling us a funny story about not having a bathroom in her in-laws house in North Carolina, she was also pointing out some people to us that we didn't know.  She is so happy that mom wrote the book for her.  I love grandma so much.  She loves to be loved, and loves to have visitors.

Sure do love her!!!

I love grandpa!!!
Well now, let the girl party begin!  We went to dinner at Cara bas and then to a super cute movie, New Years Eve.   We had a lot of fun just being together.

The Evans girls, in the parking lot of the theater.
This is after the movie, they couldn't resist taking pictures with the life size Chipmunks.

Oh don't leave me Allison.  The drop offs are always so quick!  We loved having Allison home for 3 weeks during the Christmas break.  She makes our super great family even better.  She is always positive and always has a beautiful smile to share.  We love you Allison and hope you have a safe trip back to the land of Dixie.

I'll just add right here a note.  I dropped Allison off at 5:30 am.  It was dark still when I left her at the curb.  The airport is not a comfortable place for me to drive around.  I had followed a car out of the airport the last time I was there so I followed the same route and it worked out well.  I then had to decide what exit to take.  I thought that I took the right exit, and I ended up being on some freeway.  Then I started seeing signs that were saying West and Los Angeles, then I knew that I was wrong, because, I knew that home was East.  I stayed on the freeway passing exits that I didn't recognize, until I came to one that said University.  This was a familiar name to me so I got off.  I was going an unknown direction on University knowing for sure that there weren't any freeway exits off of it, so I figured that I would drive the surface streets all the way back to Mesa hoping that University would do that for me.  Well I voiced an out loud prayer to my loving Heavenly Father, knowing that this is probably not that big of deal to him, but to me it was huge.  It was dark, I was lost, and I left Lillian and Polly asleep at the Condo by themselves.  So seconds after my prayer I came upon a freeway exit, I took it, and somehow I went in a full circle and came to the exact point where I had to choose between East and West again.  I knew the the West was wrong since I had been there so I took the East, and I then started to recognize things.  I said a prayer of thanks and felt so much peace and love from my Heavenly Father.  This may seem like a small thing, but I wanted to write it down so that it gets recorded, and also my testimony of prayer and of the love that our Heavenly Father has for us.  I know that I was guided by Him, and I am so very grateful!
After safely getting back to the Condo, I gathered the girls and we went to the Mesa Temple to do Baptisms.  Polly had never been to the Mesa temple and I thought that this would be a good time to go.  It was beautiful and so nice to be back to the place where Scott and I were sealed, exactly 23 years ago.

Another shot of the girls, but with Polly taking the picture.

This is what Scott and DeWitt did while we were off having ourselves a girl party.  Scott is in the attic blowing in insulation and DeWitt is packing the insulation into the blower.  What a job and what a day!

Lots of work.

It's a really great shot of Scott in the Attic blowing in the insulation.

The missionaries have been doing service and helping Scott, because one of the apartments that Scott rented is to a newly baptized family and the missionaries wanted to help get them moved in.  Good for all around I'd say!

ELDER DALLIN SCOTT EVANS' NEWS YEARS

Dallin cooking an asada with his companeros in Puerto Madryn.  He and Elder Leon were in charge of cooking and the other two Missionaries were incharge of the place, I guess, see letter below.

Elder Evans and Elder Leon and the other two Elders mentioned in the letter below.  Enjoying a New Years Eve asda.

Dallin, Elder Leon and the other mentioned Elder.  They are waiting on the roof of the other companionship for the New Years Eve fireworks.

One shot of the fireworks.  Dallin said that it looked like a war zone, individuals do their own fireworks, so it's a huge display, especially if your somewhat on a hill like they were.

Familia

Oh what a story it is I have to tell you fine people. Although I am going to try to keep it short so I can send some pictures. Well my family this is what happened. For the New years President Peterson gave us another p-day for saturday afternoon starting at 5 and then sunday for the first of January. I almost said july; I keep thinking that because it is summer here, but the months are different. It was wonderful. We went over to the pensión of the other Elders in Puerto Madryn and we made our own asado. I don´t know why they wanted to I am so sick of meat, but it was fun to do one ourselves. I really enjoyed it. E. Leon and I were in charge of the Argentine grill while they did all of the preparation type things. It turned out really well and now I will be able to take it home and show you what an asado is. Then that night before it turned midnight we went on to their roof to watch the fire-works. This is important, the idea of fire-works in Argentina are not the same concept as North American fire-works. There the city puts on a fire-work display and everyone goes to one spot to watch the fire-works. Here its not like that. Everyone has their own collection of huge fire-works and right at 12:00 it starts to grow and grow, throughout the city, the sound of bombs. Booming colors slowly grew throughout the city, but not just in front of us or behind us, but in all sides. Even some that came really close to our heads as the neighbors shot off their fire-works and we were on top of a two story building. It felt like a mixture of Mary Popins looking over the roofs and chimnies of London and London in World War II as the bombing lights exploded in all sides of us. The colors lit the sky. The most amazing part was that it lasted for hours. We left at 12:30 because that is when the President said that we had to go to bed, but it continued for hours as we tried to sleep. We spent that night in the pensión of the other Elders Marriot and Taylor ambos de Utah. Then the next day we woke up early, which was really hard, and went back to our part of town to go to church early. There were very few people in the sacrament meeting, but a mirical investigator, and two menos activos that we have been working with came. Then we spent that day resting a little and then over to the Family Guglioti. Who in the words of E. Leon, "son Divinos" their divine. We ate lunch with them, went to a hospital to see a sick member from the other ward, and then went back to there house to eat the left overs for dinner. It was a great new years p-day and now I am so excited to be starting 2012.

Well that is all that I have time for. I love you all so much. Have a wonderful 2012. Oh and it was great to talk to you people. I don´t know if I told you that last time.

Love E. Dallin Evans

Dear President Petterson

I am so greatful for this opportunity that I have to write to you each week, especially today as the second day of the year. This is going to be a great year and I am so excited for it. This morning for my personal study I made a list of goals that will turn into actions this year. I really am excited for the things that I have planned to do this year. I can still distinctly remember the first day of last year, and it feels like it was last week. I know how fast time goes by, how much faster it goes the furth into time we get, and the more we are doing, thus I set down a guide of goals that I want to acomplish this year inorder to improve my effectiveness as a missionary. I will share a little with you. It started with studying and all of the things that I wanted to finnsh this year; also all of the ways that I want to improve my study sessions in the morning. There were several ideas that I really liked that I came up with this morning and am excited to put into action this year. One is rotating study matirials for the language study session throughout the week, cosas así. There were also goals that I set about how I want to improve my obedience efforts and the importance of this goal. Also how I want to improve Christ like characteristics. As well as other things all of this so that I can plan how I can use the little time that is aloted to me to help as many people the most effectivly as I can. Elder Bednar said something that has been driving me to be continually strive to be a better missionary. He said, "a mission is good for every missionary, but a missionary is not nessisarily good for every mission." That statement suprised me into the reality of the commitment that I have made and it was haunted me into persevering to become the best I can, because I will not be content if I can only bless myself as a missionary.

Christmas and New years p-days were great little breaks that reguvinated me and gave me new needed energy for this coming year. I really am excited for all that is possible for this year. It is going to be my only full year in the mission. We did not have a baptism this week, but we have spent this week finding new investigators and fortaleciendo los investigadores que tenemos especialmente los que están cerca de ser bautizados.

Whooooo Raaaaa it's 2012!!  Happy New Year.

That's as far as Allison wanted to go.  She was quite comfortable in the doorway.
Very cool sparklers.  Polly provided them for us, not sure where she got them, but they were great

Oh Allison, Happy New Year!

Allison and Miken Shumway.  They were so happy to be back together.

So 2011 is over and we begin a new year.  I look back on 2011 with so much gratitude for every blessing that we have been given.  We sent out Dallin, our missionary son to Argentina, we have a beautiful daughter safe at Dixie State College, and three wonderful children here at home.  DeWitt and Lillian are going to Saffford High School, and Polly is going to Safford Middle School.  Our five kids our so stinken Awesome I can hardly stand it!  I was sitting at the table and telling Scott just how much I love my family, and I couldn't stop the tears from coming.  They each are so proactive in being good and righteous and productive, and thoughtful, and helpful.  I have the  most amazing husband.  He is so good to me, and loves me so much and provides for our family in such a comfortable way.  I am amazed at his ambition and his drive, and his creativity.  He has built from the ground up a four plex apartment building.  I am so proud of my family.  We have been so healthy, and well cared for and recognize these things as  blessings from our Heavenly Father.  Our testimonies have increased this year through the different experiences that we've had, and we are all so very grateful from them.  Especially we are grateful this year for the perfect love of our Heavenly Father that he gave his only Begotten Son, so that We might return to him after this life, and to our loving Savior Jesus Christ for his Atonement on our behalf .   This year has been just wonderful!!!  I look forward to more adventures with this great family of ours.
 Bring on 2012
