Our First Granddaughter, Lucy Joyce Atkinson was Born, April 6, 2018
What a beautiful day to welcome our first granddaughter to the world. Thursday night, Taylor, Allison and I were having a good time watching Netflix. I went to bed about 10:30. General Conference March 31, April 1, 2018
Wow, what an Amazing conference. I knew that we would have the opportunity to sustain our new prophet Russel M. Nelson, and I was so ready and excited, but I didn't expect the pure feeling of the Holy Ghost to be so real. In the first session on Saturday morning the leaders of the church held a Solemn Assembly. It was very organized. First the First Presidency stood and raised their right hand in sustaining our new beloved prophet, then the 12 Apostles stood and raised their hand to the square, then the general authorities. All of the Melchizedek Priesthood holders of the entire church stood, the aaronic Priesthood holds stood and did the same. The Relief Society Sisters of the entire church, the Young Women then stood and the Primary, and then the whole congregation of the entire church stood to show our love and support for President Nelson. I had tears in my eyes as each group stood and then when Scott and DeWitt stood the power of the spirit testified of the truthfulness of the gospel and of the surety of our new prophet.
7 new temples were announced. I read an article that they had only planned on announcing 6, but the night before President Nelson was told by The Lord that he should announce a temple in India, and so he did.
Visiting Teaching and Home Teaching were dissolved. The new program is called Ministering. From the things that I've learned is that it's like the old programs, but more thoughtful to our brothers and sisters, with more care and concern. We won't be reporting every month, but will hold quarterly reports on the interviews that the Relief Society Presidency conducts with all of the sisters.
The High Priest Quorum was changed to only have the Stake Presidency and High Councilors. All of the other men are now apart of the Elders Quorum.
Solemn assembly
During a solemn assembly of Church members worldwide March 31, 2018, President Russell M. Nelson was sustained as prophet, seer, and revelator and President of the Church. President Dallin H. Oaks was sustained as First Counselor and President Henry B. Eyring as Second Counselor in the First Presidency.
New temples
During the Sunday afternoon session, President Russell M. Nelson announced seven new temples will be built in Salta, Argentina; Bengaluru, India; Managua, Nicaragua; Cagayan de Oro, Philippines; Layton, Utah; Richmond, Virginia; and a major city yet to be determined in Russia.
