Picnic on the Mountain August 8, 2011

School is about to start and we thought it would be nice to drive up to Mt. Graham for a picnic.  It was pretty simple, we ate yummy food, we relaxed and slept on the blankets, we walked around for a bit, found a swing to play on, and that's just about it, but we had a lot of fun just being together, and laughing about conversations we were having.  DeWitt declared that we are Lord of the Rings Nerds.  We  have all of the movies on VHS.  We have them all on DVD, and we have all of the extended versions.  They watch them on a regular basis.  They can quote and act out almost all of the movies.  I say they, and that's everybody but Lillian and I, we hold a disclaimer to the nerd hood.  They have the Risk Lord of the Rings.  They check often on how the Hobbit movie is being made and watching for when it comes out.  They have a Lord of the Rings Chess.  They have a strategy game.  They have multiple books of the Lord of the Rings, and all of the history books of that series.  Nerds?......................Yup!!!

Enjoying our food.

They didn't pose for this, it was quite natural.

Lillian was very watchful of the bugs.

Scott wanted to make sure that he made it to the blog, so he took several pictures of himself.  Pretty good I think.

Now it's time to relax after the mas amounts of food that we had.  I'm not sure how Polly ended up on the bottom.

Just relaxing

Lillian didn't want to relax, she wanted to take advantage of the perfect picture taking opportunities.

Everyone loved the apple pie, and DeWitt wanted to make sure that he got the last bite.  He really is asleep.

Enjoying the "muddy buddies" that Lillian made.

Allison loves being taller that her little sisters.

Just sitting around talking

This is Polly's "Hobbit" hideout.  She was sitting on Scott's lap and then his leg fell asleep, then she sat on another chair, and she put her foot on my leg, and after a little while, I complained of how heavy her foot was.  (it wasn't really, but she is good for some fun), so then the teasing began, and it ended up that she had one heavy hobbit foot, and how does she walk around with it and so on and so forth.  It's silly, but it was funny at the time.  So she took her chair and went to her "Hobbit  hideout"  It was pretty funny.

Polly found a swing near by.

DeWitt thought he would give it a try.

Polly is pushing and DeWitt is complaining, he didn't want any help.

Allison tried to help push, but DeWitt didn't want her to, so he would kick his legs every time he came near to her.  I love being with my family, and it's times like these that I miss Dallin even more.  He loves to say movie lines, and he loves to be  Lord of the Rings nerd.

  1. your family has so much fun together! I have always believed that the family that plays together stays together. The old saying was "The family that prays together stays together." I know that is true too. But I'm so glad to see your family playing togther.
