Senior Companion for 2 days.....NOW ZONE LEADER!!!
This is not going to be a normal letter today. I will start from the beginning and take you through the roler coster ride with me.
Since I have spoken with you on monday I have said good bye to my beloved area of Centenario. I then went to San Martin de Los Andes, a touristical lugar that is the same as Bariloche, but smaller version. I was excited because I was going to be the senior companion, and the second companion of Elder Perez, which is called greeny breaking, second only to training. I arrived on tuesday and was super tired, but super excited, we left to work that day. At night I organized all of my things, cleaned the pension, and went to bed as fast as I could, the same thing early in the morning to organize everything, by thursday organizing the apartment in the night and in the morning when we had a little time, everything was ready to work. During the day we would go out and visit all of the investigatores, and members it was great. I was super excited because they had lots of investigators, but E. Perez´s companion before didn´t know how to help them get babtised very well, and I was excited for that. E. Sydal, the trainer of E. Perez left to Neuquen to be a zone leader.
Thursday in the afternoon Elder Page, the assistant called me. We were in a lesson, so we hung up, ended the lesson and left to call him back. I knew something was wrong when he had called, but I thought that it would be something with Hna. Ortiz who just went home (she was in my district in Centenario). Elder Page told me to pack up my things immediatly, and go to the termanal that night I would be going to Neuquen, and the next day to Trelew to be a Zone leader. I asked him very confused if he was shure, he said he was shure and that Pres. Lovell had been praying very hard and I had to go. Mara a member who was with us in the visit, after the call, saw that I was nervous, or something, because she began to tell me her story, about how she was an awesome missionary, and her husband was to. He was an assistant two times, went home and was asked to serve again to be assistant again, but after they got married he showed a different side of him. He was a pornagraphy adict since he was 9 years old, even on the mission, he beat her to the point she had to go the hopital several times, now they are divorced. That story scared me.
The first thing I did was to get my ticket in the bus stop, then we ran (all of this running) to the apartment to take algunas photos. I was on a super what do I need to do before I leave adrenaline rush, and Elder Perez was freaking out. He is from Mendoza who is going to Mexico for his mission. He has to wait several months for the visa to enter mexico and is doing that part of the mission here. He was freaking out, because we had already become good friends, and he was worried about the Elder who was going there. What happened was the Zone leaders in Trelew had made a mistake and President took them both out and they had become zone leaders in other zones, but after an interview with the president they became senior companions no mas. One went to where I was and the other in another place. So we went running to the pension to look for the camera to take a few pictures while there was still sun light. I had said to my self earlier, "self, finally you are going to a pretty place," now I am back in Trelew. So we ran around taking pictures of the mountians for 20min, like I had said to elder Perez. Then we came back and I backed all of my things as fast as I could, because the bus was going to leave that night at 12:00 at night. Then the other Elders Mendoza, and Frances came over to meet me and also to say good bye. Elder Frances was in the MTC at the same time as me and we were excited to be together again. We left for the Terminal, at 11:00 at night a little early, because I had packed so fast and to take a few pictures of centro. Mara the only member I had known, and her brother the bishop and her parents all came to say good bye to me, they even bought me something for the trip. Really they are they best members that I have seen yet in the mission.
On the trip to Neuquen I did not sleep very well, I spent the whole night thinking of what was going to happen. I arrived in Neuquen the next day without sleep, but still with adrenelin. All of the Elders who had said good bye to me there in Neuquen were there to recieve me again, Elders Jara, Taylor, and Clark. We left my bags in some lockers in the terminal, and I left to go work with the new Zone leader and Elder Clark. In this "emergency transfer" they had called two new zone leaders him and me, but he had already been district leader, and trained, niether of which I had done, I was only senior companion for two days. Dad I need your words of wisdom. Then that night we went back to the terminal to send me off to trelew at 10:00 in the night. Finally after a few days of bad sleep and no sleep I got to rest a little on the bus to trelew. On the bus ride to Trelew I passed for every single one of my old areas.
The only thing that comforted me about this very sudden change, was that I was going to be with Elder Salines, my zone leader in Neuquen, who is an awesome, humble, but super capable, smart chilean. We are opening the area here, because the two old zone leaders are gone. The same thing we had to do with Elder Hernandez in Confluencia. President Lovell is making many changes, most of all in the leadership, to answer dads question from last week. Now we have arrived in this zone and not only inherited an area to open, but a zone that is not animated. Tomarrow we have a zone meeting, in which I have to give a tiller, shop, about our setting apart to be missionaries. Wow, what I am the most worried about is how I am going to be able to gain the confidence of the missionaries, who have more time than I do, or more expirence, what can I say to them.
Also the problems with the ward. The old elders didn´t work much here and the area is pretty much dead. The elders were good "friends" with the young women, and had lost the respect of the members. For example when I arrived there were already girls smiling at me in the sacrament meeting, and groups of girls forming around us in between classes. We decided before had that we were going to be super formal, and strict with the rules, because problems like those that have already happened arise.
One more thing that I must share. I called president when I arrived in Trelew for little details, but really I wanted to ask him a personal question. I tried to ask in spanish so that my companion could understand and listen, but he wasn´t understanding. So I asked in english, "President I know that if this problem hadn´t happened I wouldn´t be here, but I want to know why I am here?" He told me something that I know he was inspired to tel me, because it was what I was thinking, but I had not said it. I was also worried that my companion was going to be a super zone leader, and I would just be the fill in companion, because he needed someone obedient with him. He said, Elder Evans, "your not a jounior companion now, your not just a fill in, yoru are a zone leader, i don´t know exactly why your there but you are there for a reason, and I need you there."
There is much to be done. I have not changed, only my work load has changed. I must leave. I love you all. Mom and Lillian I am righting you for your birthday already.

Dearest ones that I love
I must beginng with the end and end with the beginning. If you will exuse the order I will beginning with the end of the week and work my way to the beginning. Saturday night the zone leaders called and informed me that I would be transfered to San Martin de Los Andes in the Cordillera to be with Elder Perez, a jovencito. This hole transfer Elder Gomez has been telling me that I was going to be transfered. That I should pack my bags ya, but I didn´t believe it. I thought that I was going to stay in Centenario another transfer. I thought this because E. Gomez has one transfer left, and we knew that he wasn´t going to leave, but we weren´t shure about me. I thought that I was going to stay, but it turns out that everytime I think that I get transfered, I think that I am going to have to stop thinking that.
Earlier that day we had a lovely baptism of Mauricio Figuroa the cousin of Martin. It turned out very smooth, we have improved the cordination/organization of the babtisms everytime that we have had one; the members as well have become more acustomed to the rutine of what we need to do. It has become a well organized system. Martin is doing great, and is progressing wonderfully in the gospel. It is something that he really wants. Wow I love it. They are both putting goals for the mission and to invite their families to hear the missionaries. Yesterday I had a ferwell with them and family Leiva. That is what the missionaries do here. I don´t know what they do in the States, because the relationships aren´t as personal with the members and investigators, but here we are told that we are to be transfered we go around to say good bye to everyone, and take pictures... in the begginning I didn´t like to do that, but then I realized I´m never going to see these people again.
Saturday waiting for the babtism to start we went early to clean the font and the church, and to get everything ready for the babtism, and outside on the cement soccer court two kids had put a rope between two light posts and were playing tennis. So I cleaned everything really quick and went outside to play with them as we were waiting for the people to come. It was fun. That was the first time I was able to hit for a long time. I was a little rusty, but it all came back with the muscle memory, as Dad would always say.
Today we have several more people to say good bye to, several noches de hogar (whats it called). Yesterday we had one with the Garcia family. I don´t know if I had told you about them. They are a family from Formosa, of which half are members. We have been working with them so that the half who are members could become active, Anibal the father and zulma the mother could get married, and so that they could be babtised. It was a touching noche de hogar, with another family that we brought who are members, and in the end José my little friend cried and cried. He has13 years, and he had to go over to the corner and just kept crying, and we walked out. We had become good friends him and I. Today we are going to go see the Abuela.
Joe Carpenter por favor. Gracias. Muy bien, right to the point, así me gusta. No Martin and Mauricio are both nephews of Hno. Leiva, a brother here in Centenario. The activity was great. Mas o menos, more or less. It turned out to have a ton of work. Wow it was crazy the amount of work we had to do. I had to do everything, because it was my idea, and I wanted it done a certian way. We did it and it turned out great in the way that I had imagined. The only thing that didn´t turn out so well was the amount of people that came. It was a super windy day, and according to Argentine customs, when there is bad weather they are in the house. In the end people showed up and we actually filled up the chapel. Hna. Seaz helped us out a ton in the project. Wow Josh is already married, how crazy is that. How long ago did he get back from his mission. Last week, or was it two weeks ago (jaja). Just kidding. Henry is a good name. He is going to be a noble little baby, I hope the crown fits his head. Give him many a kiss from the Dallin.
According to the questions of last weeks letter: Is it colder than Safford? Centenario is the same, Puerto Madryn yes much colder, and where I am going now is much much colder nooooo. Does it snow? Centernario no. Where I am going now yes. Do you ever take bus rides during the day time or do you have to always take them at night time? Always at night to sleep on the bus and take advantage of the inutile time of the night, wake up and work right away. How many zones are in your mission? 7-10 algo así. Does your new mission Pres. do things just like Pres. Peterson or does he has he done things differently? Yes for example Pres. Petterson was very strict with the rules, but he didn´t like to send disobedient missionaries home, when he should have weith several that I had know. Pres. Lovell is the nicest sweetest man, but he doesn´t have any problem with sending a missionary home. For example there is an Hna. who is here with Hna. Velez who has had several problems fighting with her companions, and he gave her a second chance, but now with the drama that she has caused she is going home. She has faked sick, not wanted to work... lots of things that is just not worth being in the missionand doing. Almost all of the districts that I have been in have had Hnas. and always the drama comes from the Hnas. No sé porque será así, las hnas... What is the coolest city in your mission according to the majority of the missionaries and why? Barilloche, according to the people of Argentina, not the missionaries. It is the turist city, because there are mountians, skiing, lakes, forests, and CHOCOLET a ful. Do you drink a lot of milk or no milk? I love Argy-milk it tastes more like my lactost milk that I used to have, but here the people don´t drink milk. It is a product of cooking a the most. They are all surprised by the American breakfasts with milk, juice, eggs, pancakes, and food, because they do Mate, and a pice of bread to breakfast.
Now I am going to San Martin de los Andes. It is in the Cordillera, which means mountians, and snow, and forest, equal to pine. Good luck with school. Wow it is already school time, didn´t you peps just finnish, stop going so fast. Dewitt, Allison, let me know how the college life is going to be. I havn´t heard from you in a while. Momma is winning the most diligent writing award.
Hey I love your faces. Love the beloved
Presidente Lovell
