DeWitt arrives in Mendoza, Argentina June 18, 2013

What an amazing story....2 cousins getting to see each other in the middle of Argentina, and both missionaries to boot!! DeWitt has been extremely blessed!  He was able to see Dallin before he left, now it's as if Stetson was waiting in Mendoza to welcome him there.  DeWitt said that he was in an orientation meeting when Stetson walked in and so he just left the meeting and went to be with his cousin.  It's amazing that they are serving in the same mission.  They both look so happy!

to DeWitt
Wow, DeWitt, It really happened!!!  You are there, I know it, because we got a great letter from the office Elders telling us that you arrived, "alive and well"  We also got to see 2 pictures one with you sitting by another Elder who we will assume is your trainer.  The other with a group of Missionaries with the President and his wife.  I'm going to keep this short, because we want as many details as you can give.  What is your comps name?  Did you see Stetson?  What is the name of your area?  How was your interview in Spanish?  Follow this example and keep answering....

We've had a great week.  We got to go to the Mission President's Fireside.  Did you get to see that? Dallin played just Dance with Polly and remembered how much he loves it.  Kristen McDougal is engaged to a guy that served his mission here.  Wesley Mullenaux is engaged to be married in September, don't know anything more than that.  Dad and I have been teaching Linda Bustamante the Temple classes.  She is such an incredible girl.  Everyone is healthy and well and excited to hear about your week.  We've sent several paper letters that should be arriving soon.  DeWitt you are fully engaged in such an exciting work!!!!  I love missionary work!!  I was totally pumped up by the fireside.  I was thinking, how I could be more involved!!  We are so proud of you and we are so excited for you to be in Argentina!!  We love you and pray for you constantly!  I know that the Lord is so very mindful of you.

Have a great week!!

Love, your mama

to me
hello hello hello mi familia!
This is myvery first letter from Argentina!  There is so much to say so I think I am gong to brake it up into a few groups.
Chronological:  Okay so monday the 17th i was dropped off at the las vegas mission office and I was taken to the air port where I was able to talk with you all, I feel bad that I didnt sound supper excited I was just filled with so many different emotions of scared, excited, shy, outgoing, and everything in between.  Then I took a four hour flight to gorgia, where the elders from las vegas met up with a froup of about 50 missionaries all going to argentina.  We then all boarded our long flight which was about ten or eleven hours.  Once we landed we had to go through customs and all of that madness but all went smothly and then we were all hearded together into a big group and then seperated according to missions.  A strange man that no one know and couldnt speak english took us out to a strange car and through all of our bags into this other ghetto car and just started driving really crazily through the city of buenos aires. there are no traffic laws here it was insaine, the biggest car has the right of way.  we drove for maybe about twenty mintues and all along the way I saw tons of little soccer courts and fields and clay court tennis.  Now I want to give you the right immpression you are probably thinking really nice quaility things, no, it was all really dirty and ghetto. haha it was a bit of a cutlre shock for me!  Then the strange man that we thought was abducting us dropped us off at a smaller airport were another starnge man that couldnt speak english took our bags and gave us all plaine tickets.  We then flew to mendoza to this tiny airport where we were met the President his wife and the two assistants.  haha one of the first things he said to me after seeing my huge pile of shoes was ¿alguna persona quiere caminar mucho no? as well as he knew right away the I am the couzin of elder biggs.  he told me how good elder biggs is and how obidient and how hard working he is!  the presidnet is a very loving man and I could tell he loved stetson and the work he had done. they then took us to the presidents pinch were we had dinner. all the white kids sat on one side and talked english and all the latinos sat on the other and spoke spanish.  I sat down late and sat by the latinos, needless to say I didnt talk to much haha.  But the dinner was good!  then we walked over the the mission office grabbed an over night bag and walked down to the office elders pinch.  My first night I stayed in an appartmen with about 30 elders and I was in a room on top of the pinch with no heating and 11 other new elders and the outside was covered with razor wire, I was really kind of freaked out!  haha it was definatly a culter shock!  The next day we had our new missionary meeting where they kind of gave us the run down on argentina, the whats to do and the whats not to do.  During that Elder biggs walked in, haha I completely ditched the orintation and walked out to talk with him! haha he is doing good, still the same old stetson just a little more ragged and dirty haha.  We only got to talk for a little bit and I dont think I will see him again while I am here, but it was good to see him for that little bit!  We then had interviews with president and more things like that.  He is a great man and I really love him, I was suprised at how well the interview went even though he cant speak English.  Then I met my companion Elder Dowdel.  Haha he is just a little guy, he goes up to about my shoulder and ways nothing. haha but he is a great guy and has helped me out so much!  He put me under his wing and helps me when I need it but he also puts me on the spot so I am forced to do things myself which is great!  for example I take all of the calls but we have it on speaker phone and when ever I start messing up too bad he helps me!  haha he is a great guy!  We then took a bus to our are Progreso San Juan.  It was about a three hour bus ride and we got there about ten thirty at night.  We have been working hard, and have already given two blessings in spanish, and taught a few lessons.  Are area is huge!  He take buses everywhere!  We had to take a 30 minute bus ride to get to one of our lunches and it still wasnt on the edge of our area, we have to do a lot of traveling!  This sunday I was asked to bear my testimony in church, I introduced myself and told a little about myself, I then quoted alma 26 12 from memory and talked about the power that we can have when we rely on the Lord I bore my testimony of christ and the restoration.  I was simple and not very long but I felt that I did well.
Opinion:  okay now I want to talk about my thoughts of argentina.  When I first got here and got settled it was some cultre shock!  I came from working of the much weathly stake in the world, areas where Micheal Vick, Gladis Night, and Chriss Angel lived to some very poor areas.  It was definatly a big change!  I had to get used to some things like the showers and bathrooms and stuff. and the kitchen.  I know there are more poverished parts of the world but it was a change for me.  But now that I am used to it, now that I have created relationships with people I really like it!  it is so pretty in its own huble simple kind of way!  There are lots of pretty trees that line that roads and there are tons of vinyards!  Seriously feilds and feilds of vinyards!  It is going to be gorgous in the summer!  haha also that dogs have been soemting I had to get used to!  They are every where!  Tons and tons of wild dogs!  No one has a 72 hour kit because they are all running around outside! hahaha  usually they are pretty passive the people dont bother them and they dont bother the people.  I have had to throw a few rocks though.  haha the trash cans here are metal baskets that sit on top of a metal pole.  I am pretty sure they have thouse so the dogs dont get in.  umm
Other random facts:  um Im share a pinch with two other elders and it is a ton of fun. I am pretty much adjusted to most everything now, I havetnt had any problems with the food.  I have lost some wait though.  My spanish has actually suprised me, I can speak pretty comfterable and take a big part in all of the lessons street contacts and phone calls.  I think it helps that I am not affraid to talk with people and I am fine with sounding silly.  I have progressed a lot!  um I finished the old testiment and now all of my studies are in spanish!  I dont know what else to say.  Oh yeah mexican spanish is ugly!  And in my honest opinion argentina is not like mexico!  They are very different from the little bit I have seen!  And the language is so pretty here!  Seriously I wouldnt want to speakl any other language on my mission other that castisano!  haha hey I love you guys so much and I am really loving Argentina!  Life has been great!  Tell me more about dallin!  I want to know his honest oppinion on his transistion home!  Much love,
Elder Evans El Menor
